Hand washing: 1. Mix warm water with some mild laundry detergent. You can also use a special wool washing solution, but remember to read the laundry label first. 2. Soak the clothes in water and let them soak for about 5 minutes. 3. Rinse the laundry carefully with warm water. 4. After rinsing, squeeze out as much water as possible from the laundry, and remember not to twist or wring out the laundry. 5. Wrap the garment in a towel and gently squeeze or wring it out. Instead of folding, spread it flat on a new towel and place it in a cool place to let it dry naturally. Remember: never put wool clothes in the dryer or tumble dryer.
Machine wash: Overall, it is recommended that you only machine wash hats, scarves, and gloves. Just in case – you won’t lose much money, and it’s much easier to buy a new scarf than to buy a new one of your favorite chunky knit sweaters. Always remember that these clothes are “machine washable” simply means you can use the washing machine, but there are always risks. Remember to use a gentle cycle or a special sweater cycle (depending on your washing machine), as regular cycles can shrink clothes. Choose the right temperature, generally 30 degrees, and some washing machines have a yarn ball logo next to “30 degrees”. Choose a mild laundry soap specifically designed for this purpose, choosing a neutral bar instead of a high pH laundry soap.
Dry cleaning: If you don’t want to go through the hassle, you can send your meranide to a dry cleaner. Most merino wool clothes can be dry cleaned. But you should still be careful, because frequent use of harsh chemicals can damage the fabric. Never put your lamb wool in the washing machine, even with a washing cycle dedicated to wool. Never put it in the dryer.
